Class III Milk Price Remains at $15.72

The April Class III milk price was released at $15.72 per hundredweight on Wednesday. That's unchanged from the month before, and $3.68 below year-ago levels. The 2012 average is now at $16.14. The Class IV price was down 55-cents cents from last month at $14.80, and was $4.98 lower than last year's price for April.

The All-Milk Price report was also announced yesterday, showing that Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.70 per hundredweight for their milk in March, down $3.40 from March 2011. The April price is expected to decrease 10 cents, to $17.60 per cwt. The expected U.S. milk price for April is $16.90 per cwt., 30 cents lower than last month and 70 cents lower than Wisconsin's expected April price.

All states except Idaho are anticipating a price decrease from March to April. Idaho's price, at $16.70 per cwt., is expected to remain steady from March to April.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.53 per pound on May 1, while barrels were $1.46 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.35 per pound.

For the week ending April 21, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.50 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.48 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.44 pound.
