Iowa 4-H'ers Place in AKSARBEN Quiz Bowl

A team of Iowa 4-H'ers captured third place in the AKSARBEN 4-H Quiz Bowl. The event was part of the 89th AKSARBEN Stock Show & Rodeo in Omaha, Neb. Competing teams demonstrated their knowledge about nutrition, health, genetics, production, current industry issues or management areas related to beef, swine, meat goat and sheep.

Iowa's Story County team A, the third place recipient, included team members Jake Sterle, Nicole Dewell, Dana Edelman and Avery Mather. They were coached by Jerilyn Hergenreder.

Two additional Iowa teams participated in the quiz bowl. Story County team B included Jackson Sterle, Jordan Rydl and Connor Finch, also coached by Jerilyn Hergenreder. The Franklin County team included Jaiden Shahan, Jacob Fjeld, Mikayla Fjeld, Jenna Shahan and Justine Jordahl, coached by Jackie Dohlman.

"4-H livestock quiz bowl competitions allow youth to showcase their expertise in the fields of nutrition, selection, reproduction and other animal management practices. It's great to see them apply the knowledge that they learn throughout their 4-H experience," said Mike Anderson, 4-H youth program specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

Other teams represented in the contest were from Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina and Oklahoma.
