Educational Sessions Offered at Hawkeye Farm Show

Six members of the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach team will represent the university at the 2016 Hawkeye Farm Show.

ISU Extension and Outreach will host two educational seminars daily, focusing on challenges and important topics facing farmers during the upcoming planting season. Each seminar will be held in the Alumni Suite of the UNI-Dome.

"Participating in the educational seminars and visiting the ISU Extension and Outreach booth will provide attendees the opportunity to receive the latest in agricultural practices that can be used to improve the efficiency of their operations," said Bill Arndorfer, ISU Extension and Outreach regional director.

The following sessions will be available for producers to attend:

March 1

11 a.m. -- 2016 Weather Outlook, Elwynn Taylor, professor of agriculture and meteorology and extension climatologist

1 p.m. -- Maximize Economic Returns to Fertilizer Expense...Understanding Soil Tests and Recommendations, Brian Lang, field agronomist

March 2

11 a.m. -- Tools and Practices to Improve Water Quality, Jamie Benning, water quality program manager

1 p.m. -- Grain Market Outlook 2015-2016, Chad Hart, associate professor in economics and extension grain markets specialist

March 3

11 a.m. -- The Disease Triangle and How it can Help You Protect Crop Yield Potential, Alison Robertson, associate professor and extension specialist in plant pathology and microbiology

1 p.m. -- 2016 Planting Tips, Terry Basol, field agronomist

Attendees are encouraged to visit the ISU Extension and Outreach booth located on the arena floor. In addition to raising awareness of the program opportunities with ISU Extension and Outreach, the display will focus on water quality issues.

The Hawkeye Farm Show will be held March 1-3 inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The event runs from 9 a.m. -- 4 p.m. daily, with over 200 exhibitors participating.
