Water Rocks! Summer Outreach Request Portal Is Open for Presentations and Conservation Station Trailers
Iowa Ag Connection - 03/13/2024

Each summer we cover as much of Iowa as possible with our teams of Iowa State faculty, staff and student interns, providing opportunities for Iowans of every age to learn more about water quality, natural resources and ways to participate in building a culture of conservation in our state,” said Jacqueline Comito, director of Water Rocks! and Iowa Learning Farms. “Whether working with a group of kids at a summer camp or seeing hundreds of people at a county fair visit with a Conservation Station trailer, we relish the opportunity to engage with Iowans about the importance of water quality and conservation to our lives.

Summer outreach offerings Water Rocks! Summer Presentations for youth groups and events. Perfect for summer schools, camps and library summer reading programs, Water Rocks! brings structured 30-to-45-minute learning sessions about a single topic area (water, wetlands, ecosystems, pollinators), jam-packed with hands-on activities, natural resources-focused games, and exposure to select learning elements that complement and reinforce science lessons they may have covered in school. These presentations are not accompanied by the Conservation Station.

Conservation Station Trailers will make one-day visits to community events such as fairs, festivals and farmers markets. Water Rocks! and Iowa Learning Farms staff provide visual demonstrations and engage adults and youth in learning about the impacts of land management choices, both urban and agricultural, on water quality and the connections between our state’s water, soil and wildlife. The award-winning Conservation Station trailers are also equipped for independent browsing and learning by visitors looking to learn at their own pace.
