Iowa Ag Connection - 05/04/2012
Gov. Terry E. Branstad released the following statement in response to FEMA's decision to award more than $6.7 million in disaster relief funding for Hancher Auditorium and Art Building at the University of Iowa.
"I applaud FEMA's continued commitment to the long-term recovery of the University of Iowa's School of Music, Hancher, and Art Building East facilities that were so severely impacted by the 2008 flooding. Relocating and replacing these facilities remains a top priority to the University of Iowa and state leaders
remain committed to continuing to support the university as it moves toward full recovery," said the governor.
"I thank Administrator Fugate and the FEMA team for approving additional funds for the demolition of the buildings to be replaced. As we approach the four-year anniversary of the 2008 flooding, it is important that recovery projects not be delayed unnecessarily. We look forward to the day in the not-so-distant
future when University of Iowa students can once again study and perform in these important cultural facilities."
