Open Houses to Answer Questions on Iowa Hop Production
Iowa Ag Connection - 05/26/2016

The Iowa State University Department of Horticulture will be hosting a pair of open houses to provide information and stimulate discussion about hop production in Iowa.

The open houses will be hosted by Diana Cochran, assistant professor and extension fruit specialist at Iowa State University, and will take place at the ISU Horticulture Research Farm in Ames. The events will be held on June 2 from 2-4 p.m. and July 12 from 2-4 p.m.

Cochran will answer many common questions regarding planting, growing and harvesting hops. The open house also will include a tour of the hop yard and information on the basics of Iowa State's research operation at the site.

Cochran also is writing a series of publications about hop production in Iowa, with the first in the series being released earlier this month. The publication "Hops 101: Site selection and planting" is available online through the Extension Store.

The ISU Horticulture Research Station is located at 55519 170th Street northeast of Ames.
