Reynolds, Gregg to Hear from Farmers on China Tariff Impact
Iowa Ag Connection - 07/12/2018

Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg will make listening stops in north central Iowa on July 12 to continue to hear about the impact of China tariffs on Iowa farmers, directly from Iowa farmers.

The governor spoke with Vice President Mike Pence during his stop at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids Wednesday about the Iowa's trade war worries.

"While today's event was focused on the benefits of tax reform, I took the opportunity to again speak with the vice president about tariffs and how they will negatively impact Iowa," Reynolds said. "These tariffs will have real consequences on our state. Agriculture is always the first casualty in a trade war, and while we support free and fair trade, Iowa farmers are already facing tight margins and low commodity prices. No one wins in a trade war, and the longer this uncertainty continues, the more devastating the effect on Iowa farmers."

Details of the listening stops are as follows:

9 a.m. - Reynolds and Gregg host roundtable with Palo Alto County farmers -- Ed Noonan's farm, 3486 430th St., Ayrshire

1 p.m. - Reynolds and Gregg host roundtable with Wright County farmers -- Gold-Eagle Cooperative, 415 North Locust St., Goldfield
